The importance of being in the NOW ( Part 1 )
We often spend time worrying either about the future or about the past experiences we had either good or bad. The focus should always be in the NOW, we know that but are not able to, Why?
I may have some answers :
Recently I read the book “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle and I am going to share what I learnt from that book.
“Realize deeply that the present moment is all you have. Make the NOW the primary focus of your life”Eckhart Tolle
The author starts with stating a grim situation, where he says, I am tired of myself. (We also say this, can’t deny. But then he realized that if he is tired of himself then, there must be two of me; One “I” and other “Myself”. Then he thought, maybe only one of them is real.
This is where the journey to self-development starts.
Previously we talked about the 3 P’s , which in themselves are really important . Now, this is not a P but the most important.
So, I will be covering the lessons I learnt from this book one at a time. So, this would be a series of blogs under one theme.
- All our lives are a collection of a series of “NOWS”
So, I will start with questioning myself, what are the feelings like whenever I am thinking about the past or future; the answer is regret about the past and anxiety about the future. I hope your answers might be the same as well!
To be more precise , we always have a feeling , “ If I would have done that in the past , I would have this in the present ” or much common form of regret , may be regretting after coming out of the exam hall thinking , I should have studied earlier and then worrying about the results, because the fact is the moment we step in and out of the exam hall , we know the results because the hard work we have put in the preparation is a series of large number of present moments at that point in time.
Why do we think like this?
Because we think that “We are our mind”, but our brain in whole has a different identity.
“Mind is ours, but we are not mind in ourselves.“My Living Lessons
We have become slaves of our thinking and we know we overthink a lot, we just need to know that mind is tool and we should know how to use it and when to use it. We should not even bother imagining no mind in ourselves when we do not need it. Know when not to use it.
The least we think is about the present moment.
“Past is nothing more than all the present moments that have gone by and future is no more than the present moments to arrive”Eckhart Tolle
Gone present moment This present moment To be present moment
If we focus on this present moment, there is no past and no future. How simplified our life will be? If we adopt this thinking pattern.
So, we should try seeing things from that perspective and automatically, all your focus is just in the NOW.
PS: This works, I have been practicing this from few months and I feel a lot less burden on my shoulders, basically Past and Future got off the shoulders to some extent XD. This is the reason, the gone present moments have not affected this present moment. But the results are completely different.
All the best : )
